This isn't really a complaint so much as a... confused inquiry. Idk. It's sort of a complaint. I have lots of pet related ones, ok? :(

Recently there has been a discovery of sorts that you can 'trade names' using enchanted hypnosis wands. Apparently it's been checked out with a UA and is allowed. Very expensive, but allowed.

What I don't get is... if this is allowed, why is it not allowed to just trade the pets? I see so many people interested in trading the names, I just don't see why you could knock $30 or upwards of 50m sp off the price of trading the names and trade the pets for 6000 sp. Selling pets, I understand why that isn't allowed and frankly I don't agree with it either, but trading? The pets are both going to consenting and (hopefully) responsible users. I don't see the harm.

We used to be able to trade pets. It actually wasn't too long ago when it was banned basically. I guess it was just too much of a headache for staff to deal with.

Honestly, I'm bothered with name trading being allowed, to be frank, and I will discuss it with higher-ups.

Pet trading sucks. I try to trade for something on Neo, and it sucks. I'm glad it's gone on Subeta. Seriously. :P

If you don't mind me asking, why was it an issue? Trading pets was already banned when I joined, so I don't know what went on and why it's something you don't agree with. Just wondering!

I know it was allowed, and then removed once upon a time. And I do remember that it got pretty nasty.

But what if it was something that was okay outside of forums, kinda like speaking another language in smail and comments? (You know kinda like a not so public, don't ask don't tell?)

Personally I'm like arreg name but making someone else shell out 60 million/$30 makes me feel bad, and I wouldn't want to lose my account for a name XD It makes me shake my fist in angst.

(Though, again I do understand why it was disallowed in the first place, I remember the rage and shit it started in the forums. But still, angst.)

There was vast amounts of YOU STOLE MY PET crap talking. And past owners making 'you cannot retrade this pet' and new owners would and then there were fights involving that. And people saying they'd trade pet A for pet B and C and would get the two new pets and never even abandon theirs.

tl;dr tons of fights and harrasment and shady actions.

I actually don't like the idea of pet trading, or trading pet names using wands. I do agree that it makes no sense to allow one, but not the other, however, except for one fact: Subeta has no trading system. Pound transfers don't always work out. I don't see how you can screw up with wands.

Trading just seems risky, because there are no pet transfers, and problems could arise from pounding and transferring. It would just be annoying for staff to have to deal with "We were trading, and I traded my pet, but lost the pet I was going to get in the pound to another user! What do I do!?"

Let's just say this:

Trading Neopets was a friggin' nightmare. Nobody after it was allowed actually placed sentimental value on the pets, which would be a waste for our current artists, people were often scammed, and there were SO MANY ANNOYING ARGUMENTS between traders and people who opposed it. Trading names is different.

So in short, no, I don't agree with trading pets.

I can see why some would want to trade names rather than pets. I'm very attached to my pets, so if there was a name I wanted and someone wanted to trade it for a name I have, I'd rather switch names than pets. I've never abandoned a pet and wouldn't let any of them go. I don't really see a problem with it. When trading pets, you take the chance of someone snatching them in the pound, as it's fair game for anyone who happens to find the pet.

Which is why I've suggested pet transfers before, what with the increase of pet snipers lately. I think with pet transfers this would be a lot less messy. Also, I associate my pets with names, so even if I just trade the name, it's like it becomes a whole other pet.

And @ Neopets, there are two things I have to say about it: one, I haven't played Neopets since I was 11 and you couldn't trade pets then, so I had no idea about the havoc ):, and two, Subeta isn't Neopets, I'd hope the community was more mature. But if it has happened in the past and the same shit fest happened... baw.

Hm...I don't really see any issue with trading names?

Some people put a lot of work into treasure chests or stories or...whatever it is you crazy pet people like doing with your pets, and I guess if you want to keep all of that but swap the names, it's a better choice for you.

Honestly, Subeta has gotten a lot more lax since pet trading was banned. The new solution to fighting users is to block them. I can see why staff would allow trading names via EHW's (money), but that doesn't mean trading pets shouldn't be allowed.

I'm certainly not against trading names, I just think it's odd that this is allowed but trading pets isn't. That being said, I'm not going to be happy if both are outlawed, lol. :(

I honestly love trading pets on neopets. But the people over there do consider themselves a bit elitist to have RN/WN pets. People will just adopt as many 'great' names as they can, only in order to trade them later. I don't want that to happen over here.

For the most part, on subeta people WAIT for the names they want. They only get names by stalking them on the accounts of inactive users, or by complete luck if a friend or just someone else on subeta decides a name they have is no longer right for them, and so will adopt it out.

People that adopt out on neopets mostly expect a huge petpage application. With dozens of pictures, roleplay, stories etc. On here people will write a short paragraph, and the owner of the pet will choose based on maybe what the account looks like, and how enthused the person is about a pet.

I would like to see some sort of safe transferring feature over here for people that just want to give their pet to someone else. Or like on ichumon, where you put it in the pound, and type in the name of the user you want to get it, and no other user can see that pet in the pound. That would prevent pet swiping, which I don't like.

I don't think we /need/ to pet trade yet. We're still a community that will give a person the pet they want if we don't want it as much as they seem to. Or we are happy to find other names that work just as well for the characters we want, because there are still a lot of great names out there. I don't think it's time to start the business of elitist pet trading yet. But I do wonder about it coming eventually.

I'm not expecting elitist pet trading, although I'm sure that will be inevitable. Frankly, I am very picky about names. It's just that recently I made a thread about 'trading names' and did have some users show interest; I had a name that they wanted badly, and they had a name that I wanted badly. Both of us weren't as attached to the pet that the other person wanted. While I know I could fork over $30 and just trade the names, I absolutely do not see the harm if we just... gave each other the pet that we both wanted badly. That's not something I'd want to be frozen for, since in the end we're both doing some sort of good. Idk. ): I see the flaws with trading pets, but I also see the good.

For the love of all the is good, sweet and holy in this world, NO PET TRADES. I still go onto Neo, and I've seen the havoc it causes there. The pets are reduced to mere items, people without 'good' pets are looked down upon and bullied, there's scams out the asshole even with the transfer system (Which, I might add, is fucked up. You only get one transfer a month, and if someone cancels, it still counts.) and...no. Just no.

Name trading is one thing. If someone's willing to pay that much money for a name, I say let 'm. But actual pet trading just stirs up too much shit.

.. yeah, well, look at the community on Neopets. Do you seriously think one little feature would reduce us to that? ): There are lots of ways we could make it so it didn't become that ridiculous. I just don't see why name trading = fine, but trading the actual pet = bad. It makes no sense to me.

THIS. This would be an awesome feature. . .though I've never been on ichumon, I think this would be an ideal feature, rather than trading pets. :x (directly)
